Academic Skills Assistance

Working individually with a trained, upper-year Academic Skills Assistant, you will develop more efficient and effective study strategies and will discover tools and resources to help you with your academic skills. Topics may include lecture note-taking, time management and organization, as well as research and study strategies.

Office hours are now on a break for the summer but will return in September 2012. Please check back for more information, or visit the Student Success Centre in Gilmour Hall 110.

Learning Strategist Support

Meeting individually with a professional Learning Strategist offers students with disabilities information, guidance and support with academic, writing and study skills. Our Learning Strategist is a knowledgeable professional who will work with you to help you make the most of your McMaster experience. She will help you understand the nature of your learning disability and its impact on your academic and personal pursuits.

Learning Strategist support is closely linked to academic skills counselling, also offered through SAS. The Learning Strategist provides one-on-one support related to:

  • Writing skills
  • The process & structure of essays
  • Study strategies & techniques
  • Time management & organizational skills
  • Technology to support learning

To make your first appointment with the Learning Strategist, consult your SAS Program Coordinator. If you are entering Learning Strategist support via SAS Academic Skills Counselling, you will be referred back to a SAS Program Coordinator to ensure that you explore a full range of support.
