Design the Welcome Week 2012 Logo

The Welcome Week Committee is inviting you to submit a design for the Welcome Week 2012 logo! This logo will appear on all promotional materials including t-shirts, posters and the Welcome Week guidebook, to name a few.

Designs are welcome from McMaster students, alumni and staff. Three to four logos will be chosen from the submissions to be judged by Welcome Week planners to determine the winner! You can submit your design in one of two ways:

Via hardcopy (hand drawn) - Due to the Off-Campus Resource Centre (MUSC B112) by Monday, April 23, 2012

OR

Via email (computer generated) - Due to by Wed. April 25th, 2012.


Welcome Week planners will be voting on the selected designs from Friday, April 27th -Monday April 30th. The winner will be announced on May 1st. Prizes will include the following:

  • Gift basket of MacWear
  • 2012 faculty and residence T-shirts of your choice
  • 2 passes to all events organized by the MSU Campus Events department - during the 2012-2013 school year, including two tickets to Charity Ball 2013


Design Parameters:

  • The logo must include: Welcome Week 2012 and McMaster's 125 anniversary (you cannot use the font and/or images from the McMaster 125 secondary logo as seen on McMaster website)
  • Suggested colors to use are maroon and gold. Keep in mind that the logos on t-shirts and swag will be printed in black and or white
  • The logo should be flexible and versatile and be printable on print publications and SWAG such as the sleeve of the t-shirts (3.5 inches x 3.5 inches), umbrellas and laundry bags ( 17" x 17")

Brief history of McMaster University:

Picture this - a large field and a sea of people all wearing their colourful Residence/SOCS shirts! This event is designed to help students become more comfortable about connecting to Mac and the people you will be with for the next four years! An aerial photo of class 2015 will conclude this event. Be prepared to smile!

Monday Night Social

Monday Night Social is one event you don't want to miss in 2011! This event will allow you to mix and mingle with other first year students in numerous events that are sure to spark your interest. Check it out around the Student Centre on the Monday of Welcome Week.

McMaster Welcome

McMaster welcome

Join the rest of the first year class in your official welcome to McMaster University. Students will be introduced to important McMaster officials and get to shake their hands as they pass through the historical McMaster Arch.

MSU Shinerama Charity Casino

Roll out the red carpet and get your evening wear on because you are invited to a night at the casino! Blackjack, roulette, a poker tournament and poker lessons are only a few of the fun games that students have available during the Charity Casino. If poker isn't your thing there are many other events taking place at the casino. This event always proves to be a Mac favourite. All the proceeds from this event go towards fundraising for Shinerama.

 

Shinerama

Shinerama

Shinerama is Canada's largest post-secondary school fundraiser involving more than 35,000 students from more than 60 university and college campuses. Shinerama raises money and generates awarenesss for Cystic Fibrosis (CF). This car-washing, shoe-shining Canada wide event helps raise money for the cause so venture out into the streets of Hamilton and shine!

IRC Bedraces

This is an annual tradition at Mac and one of the most hyped up events during Welcome Week. Four fast runners and one rider from all residence and SOCS compete against each other by racing, as the title indicates, a bed on wheels. Why? Why not! The winning team will receive points that contribute towards the Welcome Week Cup (awarded at the end of Welcome Week), and the IRC Cup (awarded to a residence at the end of the school year)!

IRIS - A Theatre Production

IRIS (Inspiration, Reflection, Integrity, and Success) is the Student Success Centre drama production that welcomes new students to their first year at McMaster University by offering a glimpse of the transitional issues, challenges, and opportunities that they and their classmates might encounter during their first year at McMaster. MSU Airbands

This exciting event is a Welcome Week favourite where First Years participate in the fun by watching faculty and campus groups compete for the best airband competition. There is dancing, music and a whole lot of cheering!

MACademics

MACademics is a new academic workshop series, geared towards helping first years succeed in transitioning into a new environment and lifestyle.

MacQuest

Students journey around campus in this challenging choose-your-own-adventure style game. With the help of your teammates, students discover the hidden gems of McMaster and get their minds in motion!

Faculty Fusion

Faculty Fusion is a way to bring all of the faculties together at the end of the day to celebrate being McMaster students together! Faculties will gather together to hear each others oaths and participate in a cheer-off. Here's your chance to show your faculty and McMaster pride!

Concerts

Two well-known bands wll rock the McMaster campus during two nights of Welcome Week! Some past performers include Hedley, Metric, Alexisonfire, Tokyo Police Club, Down With Webster, The Stereos, and Bedouin Soundclash.

Last year's performers included: Alexisonfire and The Arkells with San Sebastian!

This is the opportunity to sign up for all the great clubs that McMaster has to offer! Students walk around and visit the booths set up by our various clubs. Check out volunteer opportunities, keep up with your hobbies or discover a new one. Visit to take advantage of all the great activities available on campus in 2011.

Sidewalk Sale

This annual event showcases vendors and businesses around Hamilton. This is the chance to sample what Hamilton has to offer and grab tons of free stuff!

PJ Parade

The PJ Parade has been a McMaster tradition for over half a century! This event is a great chance to meet new classmates as well as neighbours in the surrouding Westdale community. So come out wearing your pajamas and bring your school pride!

IRC Karaoke

The IRC Karaoke event is just one of the many chances to win the Welcome Week Cup. Year after year Karaoke night proves to be full of first year talent so prepare to be amazed! Even if you can't sing come out and cheer!

Community Clean-up

One of the new events of Welcome Week is the MSU Community Clean-Up. The team that collects the most trash  wins a prize and receives points towards the Welcome Week Cup. This is a great opportunity to see the community and help keep McMaster in tip top shape!
