McMaster’s New Networking Goldmine

If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I love to use all of the new services we offer at McMaster. That’s why when I heard about the McMaster Alumni & Partners Advisor Network, I had to check it out.

If you haven’t heard about the McMaster Alumni & Partners Advisor Network yet, here’s the deal. The Network is a website for current students to make valuable connections with McMaster’s own successful alumni. The connections in the network are available to help us, as students, learn more about jobs or even to talk to someone about post graduate opportunities. While this site is still fairly new, you can still expect to find over 500 advisors registered.

This is what the page looks like. It’s really easy to use, and the search engines are really efficient.

I think the alumni from our school are a huge untapped network for us as students – they have a wealth of information that can be shared from a “been there, done that” perspective! The McMaster Alumni & Partners Advisor Network makes it unbelievably easy to connect with hundreds of different people, from a variety of companies and fields. I guarantee that there will be someone in the network who has similar interests as you, and making this connection may benefit you on your road to graduation.

The site has been useful to me in my search for post-graduate education. Recently I had applied to a certificate program at Humber College, so I looked for alumni who would be able to help me decide if this was a good path to pursue. I soon connected with Ibrahim, a Mac alumnus who had recently graduated from the same program and currently works at an amazing company in Toronto’s financial district.

When I connected with Ibrahim, we had an engaging half hour conversation. We talked about his job and how the program helped him get to where he is today. He gave me some great tips on the application process to Humber and some necessary insight about when is the best time to find internships through the program.

Speaking with someone who has been through it all has made me feel more confident in where I am headed in the near future. I will most likely be using the site again as I begin my summer job search. In my opinion, the McMaster Alumni & Partners Advisor Network is a great resource, providing an easy way to meet career mentors that are willing to take time to help you out!
