Meet professors, academic advisors, deans and associate deans, and your peers at this all-day event on-campus. Each Faculty society has a schedule of events unique to your area of study.

10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Burke Science Building (BSB) B103

Get to know other Arts & Science students in this Welcome Week favourite filled with fun action and introductory activities. Learn all about ArtSci at various program-centred stations that will have you pumped to share your Artsci spirit at Faculty Fusion later in the day! Lunch will be provided. ArtSci ‘till we die!

Burke Science Building (BSB) Field and surrounding classrooms

All Commerce first-year students will be split into Pods with other students and reps as Pod Leaders. Each Pod will rotate through eight different fun-filled stations:

  • Inflatables (x2)
  • Water activities station
  • Snack station
  • Music station
  • Art station
  • Dance station

There will be a lunch break half-way through the rotations where Faculty members such as the Dean and Associate Dean will deliver speeches to the first-years. After having done each activity station, all Pods will reconvene and perform our Commerce faculty flash-mob dance!

Engineering Success Portfolio

9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

John Hodgins Engineering (JHE) Field
A must-attend event for Engineering students to learn about the upcoming school year! Meet up in JHE field first to play some ice breaker games and from there, we will go to assigned lecture halls and to learn from teaching assistants that you will likely have this year. This event is a great experience that students never forget and an excellent way to become prepared for the school year ahead. Don’t forget to bring a pen and paper and everything else you will need for the day, as Faculty Day continues right after!

Fireball Tour

11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

John Hodgins Engineering (JHE)
This tour will give you a taste of campus and your faculty’s favourite spots. To begin, there will be welcome speeches from the Dean of Engineering and the President of the McMaster Engineering Society. Following this we will be setting up lunch in front of JHE, which you can enjoy with others from your Faculty. From there, Super Plumber and Wonder Plumber – our Engineering mascots – will be leading the Fireball Tour.

Faculty of Engineering Olympics

1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

John Hodgins Engineering (JHE) Field

Whether you are into energetic activities or chill games, there is something fun for everyone. In Summer Olympics, students are broken up into teams and will do various icebreakers within their teams to get to know each other. Following this, teams will compete against one another in a variety of different team-based competitions. It’s a great way to get to know fellow Engineering students, while being guided by upper-year Welcome Week reps. On the other hand, our Winter Olympics provides a more relaxing vibe. This year, we will have a variety of activities, such as a coding challenge sponsored by AMD, a coding workshop, a 3D modelling workshop, and a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament. Make sure to stop by and join what interests you most!

A fun-filled day where you’ll be introduced to some important members of the BHSc Wolfpack – the Health Sciences office. You’ll then get to participate in bonding activities, including face painting, bouncy castles and cheers! It’s one of the Health Sci Welcome Week highlights!

McMaster University Student Centre (MUSC) Atrium

Meet for opening ceremonies.

11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Faculty Hollow/Field behind Edwards Hall

Join the McMaster Humanities Society for HUMCRAWL at Faculty Hollow. Hang out with reps and participate in various fun activities such as rock painting, live performances by our reps (AND YOU IF YOU WANT!), and an academic info booth. Lunch provided. Bring your Nickels and Dimes to participate in various contests with prizes to be won. All proceeds going to Shinerama for Cystic Fibrosis!

Activities include:

  •   Chill zone
  •   Banner painting

Baseball Diamonds (near M-Parking Lot)

Activities will range from wood round painting to water activities! Be sure to bring a water bottle, sunscreen, small snacks (a pizza lunch will be provided) and wear some clothes you don’t mind getting messy!

Welcome (mandatory event)

8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Michael DeGroote Centre for Learning and Discovery (MDCL) 1305

Yellowsuits will be outside of your residence building to bring you over at 8:00 a.m. They will also be meeting students at the Institute for Applied Health Sciences (IAHS) and the atrium of the student centre (MUSC), as well as pick-up locations for all off-campus students coming in! During this time, you’ll meet important Faculty members and upper-years to help you transition into first-year and guide you down the path of success as an upper-year!

Luncheon at Boston Pizza

11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. 1563 Main Street West

We will be going over to Boston Pizza together after the Faculty Day Welcome to grab a bite to eat before we start our afternoon activities. Throughout the year, Boston Pizza accepts the McMaster Meal Plan as payment; they also have karaoke nights on Tuesdays! Pepperon-YAY!

Faculty Day is an exciting and exhilarating day! It is a great opportunity to get to know your classmates and your campus, as well as upper-year students who are willing to answer any questions you have about the BScN program and university life. Get ready to clue-seek, problem-solve and laugh-cry as we take you through the McMaster Nursing version of the Amazing Race!

9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Burke Science Building (BSB) Main Stairway

Come on out and meet some new friends in your program! We will all meet on BSB Field at 9:30 a.m. sharp where you will be split into your entry-level programs (find the sign with your entry-level program).

The morning portion of the day will consist of a mock lecture from a professor, who will talk about how to be successful as a university student and beyond as a graduate. There will be a fun tutorial game to get to know McMaster better, a science tour and lunch! The afternoon will be on the track field (in between Alumni Field and Ron Joyce stadium) with indoor activities being held in Sport Hall in DBAC. In the afternoon we will have a zumba class, a Wipeout themed obstacle course, carnival games, snowcones, a Bob Ross paint party, bracelet making and more!

Michael G. Degroote Centre for Learning and Discovery (MDCL) 1105 and 1100 and Alumni Field

An opportunity to meet other first-years in Social Sciences. There will be an academic portion in the morning beginning at 10:15 a.m. in Michael G. Degroote Centre (MDCL) that includes a campus tour, introduction to important websites that you will use during the year along with an introduction to the McMaster Social Sciences Society and other special guests! After the academic portion there will be tours led by our reps (in the blue overalls) and then a lunch in Alumni Field with inflatables, snacks, tie-dying, community partner visits and more!
