SSC Academics: Procrastination and Time Management
10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
How do procrastination and time management issues differ? What can you do to tackle both? In this session, we’ll talk about why you might struggle in these areas, and what you can do about it!
SSC Academics: Thinking and Studying in University
11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
When professors are asking you to think critically, what do they mean? What, exactly, do they want you to do? In this workshop, we’ll use plain language to explain how to apply information, make connections between ideas, and evaluate objectively.
SSC Academics: Setting Goals
12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Have a goal for first year? Great! Do you know how to reach it? This session will help you set focused and realistic goals and the action plans to complete them. Increase your motivation, overcome obstacles, and reach your goals!
SSC Academics: Stress Less
1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Stress Less is an interactive workshop that is designed to help students gain insight into distinguishing between stress, anxiety, and fear. You’ll also learn how to identify stressors and notice how stress impacts your body. To give you practical a new strategy: Progressive Muscle Relaxation.
SSC Academics: Note-Taking for University
1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
This workshop will prepare you for university lectures by introducing a variety of effective note-taking strategies. With real examples you will learn how to actively listen for key points and summarize main ideas, preparing more meaningful and effective study notes. This session also includes a mock lecture by Dr. Geraldine Varos.
For students with disabilities, this session will cover information about learning strategies.
Unpack: Party Culture (feat. Scaachi Koul)
3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Scaachi Koul, an inspiring Buzzfeed culture writer, journalist, and author, will be visiting the McMaster campus to speak about party culture in university. Join us on the JHE concert stage field to learn more about Scaachi, have the opportunity to ask her questions about party culture at university, and to take away some limited edition stickers, Scaachi’s book (for the first 75 attendees), and lots to think about.
McMaster Movie Night
8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Faculty Hollow Field
Join residence and off-campus students for an outdoor movie night, complete with free popcorn, blankets, and a great discussion surrounding health and wellness with McMaster student groups at the end of the film.
MSU Headphone Disco
8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Join us for the ultimate silent party! Dance the night away with amazing DJ’s as you control your own headset! This event is for MacPass students. All students must present their MacPass wristband at the gates. Limited headsets available.

ISS Workshop: Home Away from Home

First time in Hamilton or even Canada? No worries. We’ll teach you the basics of being a Canadian! Join us at the Grind, our campus cafe, for a cup of coffee and to chat with our student mentors about everything you need to know about living in Hamilton. We will talk about everything from cultural differences, to common slang/words used, to how to set up a phone!

Meet ArtSci reps in front of Divinity College at 5:00 p.m. for an evening stroll through the Westdale community! We’ll be stopping by McMaster students’ favourite shops along the way, and end off with sports, picnic, and chill time at Churchill Park. Bring a dinner or buy one there!
