Message to students: November 2020

This semester has been full of many personal and academic challenges. Now, it’s time to pause, breathe and give yourself and your peers a virtual pat on the back. Think of a challenge you've experienced over the past few months. How did you overcome it? What did you learn? Whether you realize it or not, challenges like this are helping contribute to your growth and development.

Hello, Marauders!

This semester has been full of many personal and academic challenges. Now, it’s time to pause, breathe and give yourself and your peers a virtual pat on the back. Think of a challenge you’ve experienced over the past few months. How did you overcome it? What did you learn? Whether you realize it or not, challenges like this are helping contribute to your growth and development.

Take online learning, for example. Whether through Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Avenue to Learn, Discord or a combination of multiple platforms, you’re developing digital skills that will help you succeed now, in university, and in the workplace after you graduate. The nature of education and employment are changing. You and your accomplishments are part of this change.

At the Student Success Centre, we’re trying our best to remain flexible and adapt to best suit your needs, whatever they might be. We love chatting and connecting with the McMaster student community, so we’ve implemented a new live chat feature called the SSC Front Desk Chat, available on our website Monday–Friday, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. We recommend you try it out! Meet the Front Desk Team. Ask us a question. Find out how we can help you. Or just drop in to say hi!

We know that feeling connected to the McMaster community can be a bit more difficult in online environments. (We’re missing campus too!) Try attending one of our online events or workshops to connect with your peers. Search for university groups with similar interests or within your Faculty. You can build your own virtual community, regardless of your year-level, Faculty and program. Also, check out an MSU club and ask about ways to get involved. Follow us on Instagram (@MacSSC) for fun challenges, activities and games.

From everyone at the SSC, good luck with the rest of the semester — you’ve got this!

Feel free to check in with us if you need support. We’re here for you.
