February is that time of the year where winter has dragged on just a little too long, midterms have either consumed you or are about to, and all you find yourself thinking about is the summertime. The February blues are normal, but the lack of warmth and the stress-filled midterm season will be over soon.
Below is a short and sweet ‘how to’ for those of you looking to beat the February blues.
Read my ‘Must-Dos Before the Winter Season Ends’ Post
I know this just seems like a shameless plug, but one of the best ways to beat the blues is by doing some fun, and possibly different, activities. In the post I list a few must-dos that I’m sure will spark some interest.
Sometimes when we feel down, we are really just in the need of some mindful introspection.
Play close attention and listen to yourself. Maybe it’s not the cold weather and stressful assignments that are bogging you down, but rather something else.
Plan Exciting Things
If motivation to get through the semester is what you need, then planning out some fun activities for the upcoming reading week or summer will help kick you into gear. Having something to look forward to is always a good technique to make the time fly a little faster. Plan some nice day trips, destination vacations, or cool summer projects you want to accomplish. Get your mind thinking about something else (and fun) to help you beat the February blues!
Spending quality time with family and friends is also a great way to beat the February blues. Due to the nature of school, we are often bogged down with readings, deadlines, and extra-curricular activities, and therefore lose out on that quality time. Being around those who love and care about you can certainly lift your spirits if you’ve been feeling blue, and provide a distracting atmosphere in which you can unwind and relax.
