Work-integrated learning is much more than a buzzworthy topic. It’s a chance for you to get on-the-job experience so you can develop skills and learn what working in the field’s actually like.
We designed this guide on Avenue to Learn to help you learn…
- About the benefits of work-integrated learning
- How to prepare for these experiences
- How to get the most from this type of learning
Work through the content at your own pace to discover informative content like videos, graphics, text content and more, plus quick assessments to help you digest and recall the key points.
OSCARplus is an online platform you can use to engage with Student Success Centre services. These services include events, appointments and workshops to support your academic, personal and professional development and success.
On the experiential learning end, some highlights of OSCARplus include:
- Appointments
- Workshop and event registration
- Volunteer and job postings (we add new opportunities every week!)
Career Access Professional Services (CAPS) are for students and alumni who identify as a member of an equity-deserving group or have barriers to employment.
Equity-deserving groups include people who experience discrimination and social barriers that prevent them from receiving equal access to services and opportunities. Some equity-deserving groups include women; racialized persons; First Nations, Métis and Inuit; persons with disabilities; and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
The CAPS team provides individualized support to assist with all aspects of career development including exploration, preparation and the building of skills and confidence. Our services are flexible and adaptable. Whether you’d like to chat over the phone or online through Zoom, Skype, email or another platform that works for you, we’re here to help. Email us (careeraccess@mcmaster.ca) or book an appointment on OSCARplus > Student Success Centre > Appointments.
If you have an accommodation need to book an appointment, please email careeraccess@mcmaster.ca. Should you require any materials sent in an alternate/accessible format, please advise.
